From Lion and Lumber to LionCraft. Why?
History of the company
Formed in the 70s, LionCraft Construction is a design & build general contractor. The work we’ve done ranges from the simplest of kitchen remodels to large, luxurious custom homes and even major historical renovations, including the relocation of an early 1900s mansion. Over the course of the last 45+ years, through all of those various jobs and projects, our company has traversed the construction landscape like a methodically meandering river. Whether you’re considering a river adapting to and carving out its path within a landscape or man learning to construct fixtures upon one, adaptability is a necessary component for survival, and this business is no exception. Although names, location and product type have changed over the years, it is the adaptability of the people within the company that have kept it thriving during that time.
The People
Our founder, Michael de Leon, is still the company’s majority owner and operator today. But when he started as a young whipper-snapper, Michael wasn’t just another optimistic 24 year old. He was a determined 1st generation Puerto-Rican American man, setting out on a journey to change his family’s trajectory. The result that ensued is a lifetime of honest, hard work and a refusal to quit. Over the years, Michael has spent time in both residential and commercial construction, as both a general contractor and sub contractor in nearly every trade. In 2015, though, Michael and his son, Christian, decided to return to his roots in residential construction and begun taking remodel jobs. They called the company “Lion & Lumber, Inc.” paying homage to the Leon name and retaining a construction-feel. However, as time has marched on, it has again reached the time for us to adapt.
Why we changed our name
Being that COVID-19 has severely affected the price of lumber all across the country, we have been getting numerous calls everyday asking us about lumber prices and what was going to happen/why. Because we are a general contractor and not a lumber company, we decided it was important to have a more transparent name. While our license number and people have not changed, our new name of “LionCraft Construction” is here to stay and represents everything we’re passionate about. Since we are a family business and our family name is “Leon”, we have decided to retain the Lion portion of the name. Additionally, we are a quality-focused company, emphasizing high-quality work in every step of the project for our clients, from communication and process to craftsmanship in the construction, hence the “Craft” portion of the name. Lastly, because we would like to have the option to create subsidiary brands that operate within different areas of real estate and construction, we’ve specified “Construction” in the new branding.
