Del Mar Fireplace Remodel
Working on something with as dramatic of a change as this fireplace underwent is always fun and inspiring, but what made this project one of our favorites of the year so far was the people. From our initial design consultations where we came up with the general shapes & textures, through the process of outlining and visualizing the look to the completion of the construction, we were able to successfully collaborate with our clients to bring their vision to life. As a Design & Build firm, we love to work with our clients to help them finalize and eventually see their design ideas come to fruition, so when we were able to take in the client’s ideas and help them overcome the challenges the constraints of their home presented through tweaks in the design, we were already in love with this project. As you can see from the gallery of the before and after pictures below, the end result is a product of genuine attention to detail and a “made with love” mentality, which all stems from that relationship formed between the contractor and the client.
From a Design perspective, our idea was to utilize different depths and shapes to add some complexity to the minimal design. Minimalism is great, but to avoid your home becoming washed out with similar colors and textures, it helps to think of the aspects you can change without radically changing the style of the home. Being that this fireplace was surrounded by a clean, modern look, we didn’t want to introduce any materials or colors that would take away from the room, like the brick had been doing to begin with. So, when our collaborative process led us to the general shape and texture, we understood that the color must work with the room and that the depths were where we could make this fireplace truly special. The result is a gorgeous focal point for the client’s stunning home that is also able to allow the eye to continue along its natural path as it looks either toward their amazing new pool and backyard or out over the ever-expansive Pacific Ocean.
